5 Family Friendly Motorhome Destinations
Motorhome holidays have become an increasingly popular choice for families, and the number of sites offering facilities for all the family has also increased. Here are five of the best destinations to try with your family.
Lower Micklin Touring Park is situated half a mile from the village of Alton and just two miles from Alton Towers. Staying on this site with your family is ideal if you are planning to visit the theme park and can be very economical too. There is a bus service between the site and Alton Towers, costing only £1 return, so using this can not only mean you avoid the traffic, but you also save the parking fee and avoid the walk or monorail journey from the car park at the other end. The small site has everything you need, including a children’s play area, a family bathroom, electric hook-ups and a designated ball field, but because it only has 15 pitches and is one of the most popular motorhome destinations, you need to book in advance.
Brockenhurst, New Forest
The New Forest National Park is a great destination for families, with plenty of nearby attractions to keep all the members of the family happy. Setley Ridge Vineyard, situated in the heart of the national park, has a campsite where motorhomes are welcome, and it makes an ideal base for exploring the area. One of the most popular places for family friendly motorhomes to visit from here is the National Motor Museum at nearby Beaulieu. Here you can see hundreds of cars, the oldest of which dates back to 1875. There are many famous cars from TV and cinema, and the museum also houses the World of Top Gear.
The vineyard itself has a farm shop, tearoom and garden centre, so there is plenty to do on the site itself as well. If you are interested in looking at family friendly motorhomes while you are in the area, Viscount Motorhomes stocks a wide range of new motorhomes and used models at their premises near Southampton.
St Austell, Cornwall
The Cornish coast has always been popular for family holidays, and the Treveague Farm site is a great place to stay. From here you can walk along the coastal footpath to the safe beach at Gorran Haven, enjoy the facilities on offer at the site or travel to some of the loveliest areas of the British coast.
There are so many exciting attractions for the family in London, so why not try staying at the conveniently located Lee Valley Camping and Caravanning Park? From here it is just a twenty-minute train ride into central London, where you can enjoy visiting museums, galleries and all the attractions of the capital.
The Sherwood Forest Holiday Park in Nottinghamshire extends to 52 acres and is situated on the banks of the River Maun. There are many mature trees, and the peaceful site is landscaped into small areas named after different trees. You will see plenty of wildlife, especially around the lake, and there are play parks for the children. The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is near the site, and children will enjoy discovering more about Robin Hood and exploring the local area.
